ON THE HORIZON:
When I opened Jones Wood Foundry in 2011, the very first piece of equipment I purchased was a Beer Engine—specifically to serve the beloved “Cask Ale.”
After living in NYC for many years and rarely coming across it, I realized how much I missed this quintessential British brew.
Determined to reintroduce it as a staple of JWF, I made cask ale an integral part of our identity.
Fast forward 13 years, and I am proud to say that JWF has become known for its carefully curated, rotating selection of cask ales from around New York State, along with the occasional treat from across the pond.
But what exactly is cask ale? Often referred to as “real ale,” it’s a traditional British beer that’s naturally conditioned in the barrel (or cask) from which it’s served. Unlike most modern beers, which are force-carbonated, cask ale undergoes a secondary fermentation in the cask, creating a natural carbonation and a fresher, more nuanced taste.
At Jones Wood Foundry, we are honored to bring this authentic British experience to New York City. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a first-time taster, our selection offers the best of this centuries-old brewing method—one pint at a time.

Malty sweetness and a hoppy bitterness, with notes of coffee and chocolate. A roasted flavor also comes through, courtesy of the roasted un-malted barley that goes into it's brewing. It has a sweet nose, with hints of malt breaking through, and its palate is smooth, creamy, and balanced. Velvety, you might even say, if asked about the mouthfeel.
