Between retirements (yay!) and funerals (don’t ask, too sad) I have been a busy boy this week, so this post will be a little textually challenged.
After the initial promise of the NYC Beer Week Opening Bash, I only managed to get out twice for beer week events.
Both outings were conducted in pursuit of the excellent gravity kegs produced by our newest lager brewery, Eckhart Beer Company.
Coming soon (May maybe) to a tap room near you, if you happen to live near Bushwick that is.
I don’t, but they are close enough to be reached after an ocean voyage (he means the ferry) and subsequent trek (it’s only four miles, and flat), or I suppose that you could just brave the subway.
They hit the road last week to celebrate beer week and they took their trusty stichfaß along for the ride for two events.
They filled it with their Foeder Hell when they swung by one of my locals, City Swiggers last Thursday evening.
And they brought their Pale Czech Lager to The Beer Dispensary on West 14th Street (is that still considered to be Chelsea?) on the following evening.
I of course hiked out for a pint of each …
… well, I needed the exercise, didn’t I?
At both events they also brought along their initial range of canned beers for sampling; German Pils, Helles Lager, Czech Amber and Czech Dark Lagers; you may stumble across these in the finest bars, bottle shops and beer stores in the city.
You may also be lucky enough to come across their Rauchbier, which was available on draft at the Dispensary last Friday, and was absolutely amazing.
Yes, it was liquid bacon, but it was not in-your-face liquid bacon, it was quite restrained and very crushable; I can’t wait to see that pop up in a gravity key, it would be awesome with the gentler carbonation.

That was it for me last week, other than a very comfortable session in JWF on Thursday (prior to the City Swiggers visit), sipping Old Glenham Loom and watching West Ham win back-to-back games for the first time in almost a year.
And that is it for me today too.
Busy, busy, busy.
